The dissemination of the LIFE RIBERMINE project is still going strong! In the last months of 2024, we have had the honour of participating in two high-profile conferences that have highlighted our commitment to mine rehabilitation and restoration.
The first was the prestigious Mine Closure 2024, held in Perth, Australia, from 26-28 November (https://www.acgmineclosure.com/program/). This congress is recognised worldwide as the best in its field, and there, our colleague José Francisco Martín Duque, from UCM, co-led a workshop on geomorphological restoration and landscape evolution modelling. Together with experts such as Harley Lacy, Neeltje Slingerland, Chris Waygood, David Williams and Greg Hancock, we shared knowledge with approximately 50 professionals from the mining sector interested in the application of geomorphological restoration. In addition, José Francisco presented a specific paper from the LIFE RIBERMINE project entitled ‘Completion and monitoring of the geomorphic-based LIFE RIBERMINE project: transfer to other abandoned mines’.
The second congress, CONAMA 2024, took place in Madrid from the 2nd to the 5th of December and gathered more than 6000 attendees (more info here https://www.conama.org/2024/). In this event, LIFE RIBERMINE had a prominent presence through a presentation promoted by the Mines and Quarries Restoration Network, of which our members Javier de la Villa, Cristina Martín Moreno and José Manuel Nicolau are part of.
Our team continues to work to disseminate the LIFE RIBERMINE project and to achieve its transfer and replication in other parts of the world. We are excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead to make a difference in the rehabilitation of mining sites!
