The IV Iberian Congress on River Restoration, RestauraRíos 2023, took place in Toledo on June 21st, 22nd and 23rd. The Congress is a meeting place for people related to river management, research and planning, specialists in river restoration, naturalists, river conservation volunteers and communicators.
One of the talks was given by Diego García de Jalón together with other LIFE RIBERMINE collaborators from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, in which the most relevant results of the project’s aquatic ecosystem monitoring campaigns were presented.
The presentation entitled “Impact and response to the restoration of the kaolin mines on the aquatic communities of the Tagus River in the Upper Tagus Natural Park”, concluded that the diversity and equitability of macroinvertebrates are indicators that respond to the alterations caused by the contamination of suspended solids.
The restoration of aquatic ecosystems and the improvement of water quality through the restoration of former mining areas are the goal of all the actions developed in the LIFE RIBERMINE project.
