The LIFE RIBERMINE project participated in the “Technical Conference on Resolution WCC-2020-Res-088 of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN): Conservation of Natural Diversity and Natural Heritage in Mining Environments”, focused on the opportunities that mining provides for the conservation of natural diversity and heritage.
This event was organized by the Spanish Society for the Defense of Geological and Mining Heritage (Sociedad Española para la Defensa del Patrimonio Geológico y Minero – SEDPGYM), the Spanish Committee of the IUCN and LafargeHolcim, and took place on June 28 at the La Chanta quarry (Corpa, Madrid). It was attended by 28 people, including company technicians, public administration officials (Mining and Environment in the Madrid community), environmental protection groups and journalists.
Javier De la Villa, head of the Mining Service of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla la Mancha Gov., Coordinating entity of the LIFE RIBERMINE Project, made a presentation under the title “RIBERMINE, case of public-private rehabilitation in line with the Resolution”. The day also included a work-table colloquium, in which ecological restoration and conservation initiatives in mining areas were discussed, with the LIFE RIBERMINE Project arousing great interest!
